Make your own reusable sanding blocks. To do this, cut six blocks of wood from scrap plywood that is 3/4" in diameter for each sandpaper grit. They should be able two and a half inches by four and three-quarters inches. Use some spray adhesive on your blocks and the cork tile. Put one piece of cork on each block and line it up flush. Spray adhesive on your sandpaper, and then stick it to every cork block, facing down. At the end, trim the sandpaper and label each block.

If you are renting a tool that's new to you, ask the company you are renting from for a quick tutorial. Ask the company if they have detailed instructions you can take with you as well.

A good method in laminating a wood project is by using tip snips to trip the laminate. Tin snips are going to let you cut your laminate quickly and without much effort so that you can use it. If you buy a pair of snips specifically for laminate cuts, they'll always be sharp for you.

If the hinges to your interior door are loose, use a golf tee to fix the problem. Put the golf tee in the screw hole to prevent wiggling. Cut off the length of golf tee that protrudes from the hole, then you put your door back up. The golf tee gives the screw something to bite into.

Be certain you use the right nail size for any project. If a nail is too big around, it could cause the wood to split. Also, if you have a nail that isn't big enough it's nothing going to hold the wood right or penetrate it. The right size is a must.

Do you sometimes find a screw that needs tightening, but is in an awkward place where you can't reach with the screwdriver and your hand? The answer is waiting for you in your toolbox. Use a screwdriver with a long handle and 12 points. Put the socket on the screwdriver, and then put it on a good ratchet.

Never stick with tape measures alone. Practicing on story sticks is effective and gives you confidence to work your way to that final cut on your project piece.
